London

The most under-rated area of golf in England is the heathlands area just west of London. Since there aren't any Open Championship rota courses, it seems to get overlooked by those looking for a great English golf trip. But don't let that fool you, the golf here is as good as anywhere in the country.
Start with the incredible 36 hole facility at Sunningdale, which provides two historic courses (Old and New) ranked among the best in England. Just around the corner is Swinley Forest, a quaint Harry Colt course that is about as authentic of a Colt course as you'll find anywhere. Walton Heath is another couple of must-play heathlands courses (Old and New) that hosted the Ryder Cup in 1981. So if you're considering England for your next golf vacation, don't overlook Surrey, and combine the great golf with some time in London itself! |
