Any younger brother or sister will be able to attest that coming second brings its own expectations and challenges, and yet Walton Heath’s New course seemed to live up to the hype of the original. Herbert Strong once again designed the New, which is generally regarded as easier, but the pair co-hosted the 1981 Ryder Cup in a Composite routing, taking holes from either layout to make 18 holes. Stunning bunkers over the brilliant heathland landscapes make the architecture pop, and make this one of the best “B” sides to play in the world.
