Time to look forward
2021 - A New Start!!
2021 - A New Start!!
2020 is now behind us and we are sure you are all looking forward to the new year, just like we all are at Golf Away Tours.
2020 was a year like none other in the golf, and golf travel, world and it is time to leave it in the rear view mirror and look forward at 2021.
As we look forward at 2021, we know there are many of you looking forward to getting out and travelling again - local golf is great but destination golf is something that really gets the juices going!
This issue will be focusing on looking forward. We will be giving some perspective on 2021 golf travel, what you can expect, and highlight a couple of destinations from past issues that you may have missed, and may want to consider, for your 2021 potential golf getaways.
What you will find in this newsletter:
- The Golf Away Team sat down over the holidays for a Zoom chat to talk about about what we can expect in 2021. We spent some time chatting about 2021 opportunities, some of the challenges still ahead, and then we talked about some of our favourite Canadian golf destinations (both ones we've been to and ones we really want to get to). Given how many inquiries we've been getting about Canada golf destinations, we wanted to share some of our thoughts with you.
- We also wanted to re-highlight the destinations and sample itineraries from our December issue not only because of the recent interest in Canadian golf travel, but also because we went through a system change over in December which wiped out the sample itineraries. We re-built them all and wanted to be sure you had the chance to look them over if you had trouble in December.
- We also are re-visiting Casa De Campo as a 2021 destination. They offered some great deals to us that we have put together for you to consider whether you looking for a getaway this winter, or any other time in 2021.
- In the theme of Canada and Casa, our Hole of the Month will link you back to 2 past holes we have featured - the Devils' Cauldron at the iconic Banff Springs Golf Club, and the 5th hole at Teeth of the Dog in Casa de Campo.
A slightly shorter newsletter, but a lot of interesting opportunities for the golf travel enthusiast. At Golf Away Tours we are excited about prospect of a great 2021 and hope you are as well. Talking golf, and golf travel, is our passion so call us anytime and we would be more than happy to share that passion with you.
In the meantime, stay safe, stay healthy, enjoy this month’s newsletter and welcome to 2021!

The Golf Away Team Talks 2021 Golf Travel
2020 is finally behind us and we couldn't be happier!!!
Needless to say golf travel, and travel in general, was put on hiatus by most people in 2020 but it was likely always top of mind with most of you. Questions like, When should I start planning my next trip, where do I want to go when it is safe to travel and when is the right time for me to travel were on all our minds as we filled some of our new found spare time at home dreaming of being able to get out and explore again.
The Golf Away Team chats all the time about these, and many other related topics, so we sat down for a Zoom over the holidays for a chat and we decided to record it and share some of our thoughts with you. Take a listen as we chat a bit about 2020, but mostly about 2021 prospects and opportunities, and feel free to give us a call any time with your questions or comments as you try to figure out your future golf travel plans.

Destination Guide
Great Canadian Golf Getaways
We know many of you have already booked a lot of great overseas trips for next year (and we can still help make that dream, and much needed, getaway possible for you in 2021 if you haven't booked yet).
We have been getting a lot of inquiries about travel in Canada lately and that is why we will continue our look at Golf In Canada this month by re-highlighting some of the great travel destinations in our own backyard. We also added an extra destination in Bear Mountain, Victoria B.C. that we think may be of interest to many of you, especially as Victoria does have a climate that allows for year round golf (albeit much warmer in the summer than winter!).
We know that, even though the vaccine is rolling out and we expect borders to open up over the coming months, some people may still be concerned about 2021 overseas travel so these options are perfect for those of you who want to satisfy the travel bug in 2021, but not travel outside of Canada.
If you’re that traveler, take a look at some of the sample itineraries to get an idea of what is out there and then, give us a call to discuss how to customize an itinerary to make the perfect trip for you and your group.

Holes of the Month Devil's Cauldron, Banff Springs Banff Springs Golf Club is set in perhaps the most spectacular and striking location in the world. The setting in the Canadian Rockies is so special that only the most focused golfers will be able to concentrate on the game in hand. Opened in 1911 as a nine-hole course laid out by Bill Thomson, a Scottish expatriate who apprenticed under Old Tom Morris at St. Andrews, the Banff Springs Golf Course was expanded to an 18-hole course by Donald Ross in 1924. But it was Stanley Thompson, Canada’s most significant and successful golf architect, who created the layout as it plays today. Pick up a copy of the book The World’s Greatest Golf Holes, and you’ll see a picture of the fourth hole at Banff Springs. It’s a par three, over Devil’s Cauldron 70 meters (230 feet) below, to a small green backed by the sheer face of Mount Rundle rising vertically more than 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) above the putting surface. Are you ready to challenge the Cauldron? | Hole of the Month Casa de Campo 5th Hole, Teeth of the Dog A long time favourite of Canadians, the Dominican Republic offers many great courses but none better than the 3 courses at Casa De Campo Resort. This deluxe resort is a golfers dream getaway featuring not only great golf, but all the other amenities needed to make a vacation great. When looking at Casa de Campo, the 5th hole at Teeth of the Dog is probably the most dramatic hole, and arguably the most scenic in all of the Caribbean, at a resort filled with many signature hole candidates. A par-three of 145-yards, it is the first in the coastal area, with its small green extending deep into the sea and exposed to the winds that blow towards the coast and force the ball to fly over the crystalline waters of the Caribbean. Short in length, but long on challenge, this is a great hole amongst many great holes and needs to be enjoyed by all serious golfers. |
