A morning coffee while watching great links golf – a great wat to spend a Sunday and the women did not disappoint as Anna Nordqvist calmly held off a slew of challengers to capture her 3rd major and first win since 2017.
With her #54 Word Ranking at the time of the pool, Anna was not even in the pool as a selection option so those who picked Georgia Hall and Lizette Salas got the big advantage in the pool. In the end, Ron actually had the best results for the pool (blind squirrels to find nuts everyone once in a while) but is not eligible, of course, so 3 more people won bonus entries in the "Win a trip to Ireland" contest and improved their chances of joining TJ, Natasha and Lorne in Ireland in the fall of 2022.
- 1st place and 6 bonus entries into the “Win a Trip to Ireland Contest” = Allan Patt
- 2nd place and 4 bonus entries into the “Win a Trip to Ireland Contest” = Ryan Lindstrand
- 3rd place and 2 bonus entries into the “Win a Trip to Ireland Contest” = Jeff Bell
Fun facts about the pool
Every pool it just feels like TJ has to do better but everyone time he manages to once again demonstrate his complete lack of picking ability.
It didn’t seem possible for TJ to do any worse than when 93% of entrants that beat him on the PGA Championship pool, 90% of entrants beat him in the US Open and then in the PGA Championship Pool where 97% of pool entrants beat his score but he did it again:
Only 1 entry had a lower score than TJ - 99% of pool entrants beat TJ's score in the Women’s Open Championship Pool!!!
His 3-year-old son Julian was barred from putting in picks in this pool (after beating him last time) but we are pretty sure he would have beat TJ as well.
As we look forward to the Masters next year, it will be fascinating to see if TJ can come in dead last and complete the downward trend!
It's gotten so bad for TJ that he should consider reading his own previews and taking that advice (something we generally discourage for everyone one else but in this case he should have taken his own advice). In the Open Championship preview article, he chose Inbee Park as his winner (she did come in T52) but, when it came to making his actual picks, he didn’t select her in that box. Instead, he took Jin Young Ko who didn’t even end up making the cut!!!!
For those keeping score, and Ron is, TJ lost all 6 pools to Ron this year and now owes 6 beers at the pub in Wales when we are there for the IGTM Conference on October!
