Well, my track record for predicting winners has not been good lately, but who would have ever predicted Phil winning the PGA Championship at nearly 51? And now he comes to his home track to play the one major he needs for his career Grand Slam. So my pick for this year’s US Open is…no, just kidding, I won’t go that far. I can’t see Phil pulling out another miracle, but it sure would be a great story.
For this year’s US Open, I am picking Patrick Cantlay, a California boy who has been playing some great golf this year and is due to break out. He’s coming off of a playoff win at the Memorial, and has never missed a cut at the US Open, but also hasn’t finished inside the top 20, so something has to give!
I also think Corey Conners is going to put himself into contention again. The US Open always puts a premium on ball striking, and he’s the best in the biz. As always, I’m looking forward to watching the next major and I hope you are too.
