PEARL VALLEY GOLF ESTATE
WINELANDS, SOUTH AFRICA
This fairly flat and largely uninterrupted terrain enabled Nicklaus the freedom to develop hole strategies making this a golf course the golfer has to think his/her way around. In its engineering and planning detail, the course is very rare. It is crossed by roads in only three places, and the drainage system allows play to continue just minutes after a severe cloudburst. Every hole is played against the spectacular backdrop of the mountains surrounding the estate and all are challenging due to the strategically set bunkers and fast greens. The 13th hole, par 3, is the ‘Signature’ hole of the course and perhaps the most scenic. The water cuts from the right and a greenside bunker awaits the cautious tee shot. Hole 4 – equally challenging; leaves no room for error crossing the creek three times on route to the green. This par 5 is listed as one of the best in South Africa, a real ‘risk and reward’ classic!

LEOPARD CREEK COUNTRY CLUB
KRUGER PARK AREA, SOUTH AFRICA
Working closely with the Kruger National Park and nature conservation authorities, the Leopard Creek Golf Course was specifically designed to blend in with the surroundings, providing sophisticated leisure amenities in an undisturbed natural environment. Innovative architectural and landscaping techniques ensure that the golf course is in harmony with the environment, while lakes and small streams have been diverted through the development to create scenic vistas and interesting golf strategies. Sightings of crocodile, hippo, antelope, buffalo and wild boar are commonplace, either on the course itself or in or next to the river running alongside several holes. Golfing hazards take on a new dimension at Leopard Creek for much of the water is home to hippos and the creature for which the adjacent river is named – crocodile. To single out a signature hole is brave as there are some memorable holes. Not for the faint-hearted, the par five 18th is not particularly long at 475m but the island green presents a tricky shot over water. The 13th is equally dramatic, with the green 'floating' above the Crocodile River which divides the course from the Kruger National Park. A creek first splits the fairway and then runs alongside the left hand side of the hole. The green is built out over the river, which runs underneath. Perfect Climate Malelane, with its temperate climate, offers year-round attractions – comfort, convenience and informal elegance. The winter season is an especially enjoyable time in Malelane with easy game-viewing and bird-watching, and off course - ideal weather for golf!
