Four of the top public courses in Canada, mountain scenery, beautiful lakes, wineries, deluxe accommodations, and a direct flight from almost anywhere in Canada - if this sounds perfect for you, then Kelowna is your destination of choice in Canada. Halfway between Calgary and Vancouver lies Kelowna and it is an area blessed with a wonderful climate, great scenery, awesome golf, and some of the best wineries in all of Canada.
Starting with the golf you have Tower Ranch, Gallagher’s Canyon, and the 2 Predator Courses (The Predator and The Ridge), all ranked in the Top 59 Public Courses by Score Golf. When you then add Okanagan Golf Club with the Quail and the Bear giving you a selection of courses to rival any trip. This is golf at its best with everything from links style golf to extreme mountain elevation changes through to some of the best tree lined, water protected holes you will ever play.
Accommodations are top of the line. You can stay at Predator Ridge Resort and enjoy all the amenities of that resort including a fantastic restaurant, fitness and pool facilities and a wide range of accommodation styles ranging from standard hotel rooms through to cottages and townhomes overlooking the course (I had a room overlooking the first tee of the Predator Course when I was there and it was superb!). |
If you crave a bit more action and options, staying in Kelowna is a perfect solution with either the Royal Kelowna or Grand Okanagan offering rooms that will meet anyone’s needs and they are both located right on the beautiful waterfront of Kelowna. Staying at either of these properties will give you all the food and entertainment options you could want including a good size casino in the Grand Okanagan where, once again, you can win some of the money I left behind when staying there.
The little extra (or not so little depending on who you are) that gives this region a unique character is, without a doubt, the wine. With 40 wineries in Kelowna and over 130 wineries within about an hour drive of the city, you are spoiled for choice and will be happy whether you are a novice wine drinker or a serious wine snob (and everything in between of course!).
It would be impossible to go over the many wineries in the area but one I need to highlight is Mission Hills Winery. This is a favourite of mine and a must visit almost every time I go to Kelowna not only for the wine but for the beautiful winery itself. For those who haven’t been, be prepared for a great experience and PLEASE, sign up for the tour that includes a trip into the barrel cellar – it will blow you away. There are dozens of other great options in the area that I would love to recommend (I’ve been to a lot of places there…) so feel free to chat with me if you find yourself booking to take a trip into this amazing region.
Kelowna (and the whole Okanagan region) is the perfect couples trip and makes a great trip for a group of guys or gals looking to play great golf while also enjoying a fine wine or two.
