Casa de Campo offered me the opportunity to stay and play at the resort so after my amazing stay at the Iberostar, I transferred up to La Romano for a couple of nights at the resort, a definite favourite of many of our clients. I now have firsthand experience as to why it's so popular – it is amazing and like no resort I have ever ben to before.
We have highlighted this resort before so I will not go into a lot of detail (the links to our past articles are below) but I wanted to highlight a couple of impressions I had.

The Resort
Casa de Campo is more of a village than a resort. With shopping, grocery stores, a marina, beaches, etc etc, it functions as a working town (they have their own water station on the river). While large, it is beautifully maintained and easy to get around with the golf cart they provide to every room. |
Rooms
Villas
I was given a tour of one of the villas. These are privately owned homes that Casa rent out on behalf of the owners. Ranging from 4-10 bedrooms (I saw a 6 bedroom version). All villas come with butler service, cooked breakfast (in the villa), full access to all resort amenities, and each has their own private pool (and often hot tubs and other amenities). A great way for a group to enjoy the resort. |
Marina
Beach Club
Main Square
Altos de Chavon
A town inside the resort. Shopping, restaurants, and an amphitheater that features world class artists (Frank Sinatra opened it, Elton John has played it and many more have been featured there). There are a couple of restaurants included in the all-inclusive rate here, and bunch of other great places to eat and drink as well, plus the view of the surrounding hills and river are unmatched.
Once again, we're all golfers so that is often the most important thing on your mind and you will not go wrong at Casa de Campo with 3 different course (1 featuring 27 holes) all designed by Pete Dye. My short thoughts on the courses and many pictures (which is probably more important and interesting anyway!)
The Courses
Dye Fore
Up on the hillside overlooking the Chavon River, it is blessed with great views, massive elevation changes and even a few spectators keep an eye on you (biggest Iguana I’ve ever seen and according to the caddy, one of the biggest he has ever seen).
As you would expect from Casa de Campo, the course is in amazing condition. The greens roll very true and with the high winds up on the hill (welcome to keep you cool), the course plays very tough but with fairly wide fairways, and only 1 forced carry I encountered (I wasn't able to play 1 of the nine's unfortunately, it is very fair for everyone.
Teeth of the Dog
All you can say about the course is WOW. It really is a great course. The seaside holes are beyond great, but the inland holes shine as well. Pete Dye did an amazing job of taking a great piece of property and making it shine. It is in the perfect condition you would expect and, unlike some of the other courses, it is not quite so forgiving. It is still playable by all but a very stern test of golf, a true championship course that will give even the best of golfers a challenge, especially if there is wind.
As they say there - All Bite, No Teeth!
The 3rd course available onsite (there is actually 1 more though but it is private, only available to villa owners) is The Links. I didn’t get the chance to see it but, by all accounts, it is a strong course and, as TJ puts it, its only challenge is that Dye Fore and Teeth of the Dog are on the same property!
Casa de Campo is a very popular resort and books up early. Even during my stay at the end of May / beginning of June, it was completely sold out. If you interested in taking on the Dog and enjoying all the amenities of the world class resort, be sure to get in touch with us as early as possible so we can get you booked in for a golf vacation you will not soon forget.
