A rather interesting layout featuring 20 holes, Pat Ruddy’s magnum opus on a rollicking piece of ground near Dublin is one of the world’s most difficult golf courses, but it is far more interesting that that tagline perceives. Deep, pot bunkers, often with railway ties, loom over most shots, with undulating greens in perfectly located sites put a premium on iron play. Demanding golf courses in beautiful settings like the European Club is some of the most fun any golfer can have; it is no surprise this is among the handful of “must-see” courses in Ireland.
