A newcomer to the rich golfing fabric of the Scottish Highlands, Castle Stuart has made a big splash as host of the Scottish Open and being regarded as a world top 100 course almost from the moment it opened.
The course was designed by the current darling of golf architecture, Gil Hanse, the man who beat out big names such as Nicklaus and Fazio to be selected to design the 2016 Olympics course in Brazil.
The distinctive features of Castle Stuart include its rumpled fairways that present golfers with various lies throughout the round, rustic looking bunkers that rarely simply flank the fairway landing zones, and its long views throughout, which provide a great sense of place in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
