Northern Ireland
|
Home to two of the world’s best courses and plenty of other excellent links, Northern Ireland offers warm hospitality and awesome scenery to go along with the legendary golf.
The pillars of golf in Northern Ireland are Royal Portrush and Royal County Down. They are both absolutely world-class but present a different look and feel to the golfer. Portrush sits high above the sea and has a fair amount of elevation change throughout. The land at County Down has a slightly lower profile and is mostly at or about sea level. The common denominators are the dramatic dunes that provide great strategy and the plethora of outstanding holes that engage and challenge the golfer throughout the round. To play these courses is to know that you are in the presence of greatness. Beyond the two Royals, Northern Ireland is anything but a letdown. Portstewart is a championship quality links that has perhaps the best opening hole in the UK. Ballyliffin has two top-notch courses including the Glashedy course which has hosted many championships, Castlerock offers a true links experience at an excellent value, and Ardglass is a spectacular cliff-top course with sea views throughout. |
