Set along the Camel Estuary on the rugged Cornish coast, St Enodoc's Church Course is a quirky, beloved links that wraps around the 12th-century church where former Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman is buried. The signature 6th hole features the famous "Himalayas" — a towering sandhill bunker reputed to be the deepest in English golf, demanding either a heroic carry or a humbling lay-up. James Braid's 1907 routing showcases blind shots, dramatic elevation changes, and ever-changing winds off the Atlantic, making this one of the most distinctive and atmospheric links in Cornwall.

Long views of Boobys Bay and the rugged coastline of Trevose Head provide picturesque, stunning long views to compliment Harry Colts golf course, who built a stern test on the ocean. In fact, the course record is a surprising six under 66, thanks to notable, demanding moments like the approach to the par 4, 4th pressed against Boobys Bay, of the 199 yard par 3, 11th. As additional fun, Trevose has a shorter 9 hole course, as well as a par 3 course.

Throughout the years, Saunton’s East course has received praise from important golf figures, including Bernard Darwin and Harry Vardon. The former wrote that “Saunton looks at first glance like a fine golf course”, while the latter added “I would like to retire to Saunton and do nothing but play golf for pleasure.” Certainly high praise from golf’s greatest writer and one of the sport’s greatest champions, but they are good judges of character: the strong set of par 4’s are noteworthy here.

Perranporth Golf Club is one of the great hidden-gem links in England — set high on the cliffs above Perranporth Beach on the north Cornish coast. James Braid's 1927 routing rides the natural sand dunes with tight, tumbling fairways, blind approaches, and greens perched on ridges and in hollows. The course plays firm and fast almost year-round, and the panoramic views across the beach and Atlantic make almost every hole memorable. A classic Braid layout that remains a members-first club with a warm welcome for visiting golfers.

Royal North Devon holds the title as the oldest golf course in England on its original fairways, and also the oldest links golf course outside of Scotland. Interestingly, Royal North Devon is also the second club ever to allow women members, following the first Ladies Golf Club in St. Andrews a year earlier. Part of the charm of Royal North Devon is playing among the sheep grazing, as if the times have not changed since 1864, or perhaps the interesting railway ties that come in play often.
