Blue Canyon โ€” Canyon Course

Location
Thalang, Phuket
Opened
1991
Designer
Yoshikazu Kato
Events
Johnnie Walker Classic (1994, 1998 โ€” won by Ernie Els)
Rankings
#6 in Thailand, top100golfcourse.com

Blue Canyon's Canyon Course is Phuket's most famous test โ€” a Yoshikazu Kato design carved through the ruins of an abandoned tin mine, using the dramatic canyons, cliffs, and lakes that were left behind as strategic hazards. The course hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic in 1994 and 1998, where Tiger Woods famously came from eight shots back on the final day to force a playoff, and it remains a bucket-list round in Southeast Asia. Its most iconic hole is the par-3 14th, played over water to a cliff-edge green with a plunging drop behind โ€” one of the truly great one-shotters in Asian golf.

Red Mountain

Location
Kathu, Phuket
Opened
2007
Designer
Jon Morrow (Pacific Coast Design)
Rankings
#11 in Thailand, top100golfcourse.com

Red Mountain is Phuket's other tin-mine masterpiece โ€” a bold Jon Morrow design that uses the exposed red laterite cliffs of a former open-cast mine as a dramatic backdrop. Elevation changes of over 60 metres, blind approaches, and precariously perched greens make this the most visually striking course on the island, with the par-3 5th and the dogleg par-4 15th standing out among Thailand's most photographed holes. Firm paspalum turf and mountain breezes add a genuine test to what is one of the most memorable rounds anywhere in Southeast Asia.

Blue Canyon โ€” Lakes Course

Location
Thalang, Phuket
Opened
1999
Designer
Yoshikazu Kato
Rankings
#12 in Thailand, top100golfcourse.com

Blue Canyon's second course, the Lakes, is a more forgiving companion to its famous sister โ€” Yoshikazu Kato again used the natural terrain of the former tin mine, but built the Lakes around a series of large lakes and gentler elevation changes rather than the canyons that define the original layout. Wide, tree-lined fairways, well-guarded greens, and consistently top-tier conditioning make it a genuine championship test in its own right, and pairing it with the Canyon Course for a 36-hole day is one of the great golf experiences in Asia.

Laguna Phuket

Location
Bang Tao, Phuket
Opened
1993 (redesigned 2014)
Designer
Paul Jansen (2014 redesign)
Events
Laguna Phuket Ladies Masters (Ladies Asian Tour)
Rankings
#30 in Thailand, top100golfcourse.com

Laguna Phuket Golf Club sits inside the Laguna Phuket integrated resort on the palm-fringed shores of Bang Tao Bay, minutes from the beach. Paul Jansen redesigned the course in 2014 into an inviting, lagoon-laced parkland layout that flows through the resort with generous fairways, palm-shaded green complexes, and glimpses of the Andaman Sea. It's the easiest course on the island for a relaxed beach-holiday round, and the on-property resorts and dining make it a natural base for a Phuket golf trip.
