The second of David McLay-Kidd's two new courses at Comporta, Torre opened in 2025 with a distinct character from its sister Dunas — winding more through the cork and stone pine forests inland and offering a parkland-meets-links experience. Together, the two courses establish Comporta as a genuine destination resort, with Kidd given a rare opportunity to build 36 holes from scratch on virtually untouched coastal land. Early reviews suggest both courses will rank among Portugal's best within a few years.

Links golf is a term often referred to with the British Isles in mind, where land close to the ocean dominated by sand was not suitable for farming and thus converted to golf. At West Cliffs, however, that definition comes to Portugal with a stunning seaside layout through the sandy terrain and coastal vegetation. Greens are pushed up, falling off in many ways, and the turf often allows the golfer to run shots up—sometimes being the preferred way to attack holes. Designed by American Arthur Hills, Oitavos Dunes is a beautiful golf course routed through the sandy, tree-lined site that feels more links than parkland. The balancing act is certainly an achievement in itself, and golfers who visit Oitavos Dunes will notice the spectacular change in biomes, which clearly have this as the créme de la créme of the country. Interestingly, Oitavos Dunes was the first golf course to receive Audubon Gold Certification, which acknowledges and celebrates its relationship with nature and local animals.

Architect Cabell Robinson can be remembered as quoting “this is the kind of landscape we architects try to create, but it is all here, naturally” about Praia D’EL Rey. That is certainly true, with stunning views, gently rolling terrain, and beautiful bunkering fitting into the landscape as if he found it there. Highlights include the par 5, 10th and the par 3, 8th over a lake, but truthfully, each hole has something unique, memorable, and interesting to see.
