Pebble Beach and Pacific Dunes might play above the ocean, and The Old Course at St. Andrews and National Golf Links of America might play near the ocean, but Teeth of the Dog quite literally feels like holes are falling into the ocean—that’s how close you get. Dye’s routing allows the golfer to visit the Caribbean Sea and the Caletón de la Majagua on both the front and back nines, and the par 3’s at the 5th, 7th, and 16th will have you stopping for photos, selfies, and more as you overlook the crystal clear blue ocean water.

The 27 hole Dye Fore is not on the ocean like its more-known sibling Teeth of the Dog. Rather, Dye Fore journeys between the marina and the highlands overlooking the Chevron River. Minimal trees allow the golfer to fully battle the winds coming off the Caribbean Sea, while Pete Dye’s usual deceptive architecture style, with long, trench bunkers mixing with small pot bunkers guarding small, contoured greens make for a challenge and its own identity separate than the oceanside Teeth of the Dog.

A less dramatic property than its siblings Teeth of the Dog and Dye Fore meant Pete Dye’s architecture has to take more of a leading role. As a result, Links is, as the name suggests, more UK/Scotland inspired, with much more focused shaping and features around the greens, like humps, bumps, collection areas, and hollows. For those looking to challenge the game after a long winter, or test the game in prime season, this is the perfect course to go against arguably the best tournament architect of all time in Pete Dye.
