The much-anticipated follow-up to Cabot Links brought more drama thanks to the hands of Americans Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who found ways to get the golfer to bring out the camera at almost any moment. Whether it be in the dunes at the par 3, 6th, playing in the highlands on the par 5, 7th, or the now-famous cliffside stretch to close out the round starting at the par 3, 16th.

The vision of Ben Cowan-Dewar inspired by Mike Keiser’s Bandon Dunes—-who came on as an investor to help Cowan-Dewar’s vision come alive—Cabot Links is authentically Canadian with Rod Whitman’s guiding hand, though feels Scottish. The journey includes the harbour, the ocean, beach, and the town of Inverness to provide an exceptional experience on Canada’s east coast.

Highlands Links

Location
Ingonish, Nova Scotia
Opened
1941
Designer
Stanley Thompson
Rankings
8th best golf course in Canada, SCOREGolf (2022), 94th best golf course outside the USA, Golf Digest (2022)

Often referred to as Stanley Thompson’s “mountains and oceans” golf course because the journey the routing takes you on, Highlands Links is one of the world’s most natural golf courses, with manual labor shaping many of the fairways to provide jobs during The Great Depression. As a result, a rowdy golf course full of uneven lies through some of Canada’s most breathtaking scenery—which includes mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, a river, and the forest—-awaits those who journey to the edge of the continent.

Bell Bay Golf Club

Location
Baddeck, Cape Breton
Opened
1997
Designer
Thomas McBroom
Rankings
N/A

Bell Bay Golf Club is one of Cape Breton's most enjoyable resort courses — a Thomas McBroom design perched above the Bras d'Or Lake in Baddeck, next door to the Inverary Resort. McBroom used the natural elevation and mature forest to create a walkable, dramatic parkland layout with sweeping lake views on almost every hole, and it's consistently rated among the top public courses in Atlantic Canada. Its central Cape Breton location makes it a natural stop between the Cabot resort on the west coast and the Cabot Trail loop through Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
