Arrowtown, Central Otago
Opened
1930s (current 18-hole layout 1997)
Designer
Original layout 1930s, expanded 1990s
Rankings
#8 in New Zealand, top100golfcourse.com

Arrowtown Golf Club is one of the great characterful members' clubs in New Zealand — a rugged 18-hole layout wedged between the Arrow River gorge and the historic gold-mining village of Arrowtown, twenty minutes from Queenstown. The course tumbles through mature schist tors, willow-lined riverbanks, and open Central Otago tussock, with dramatic elevation changes on almost every hole and views back to the Remarkables. Unpretentious, walkable, and often described as the "hidden gem" of Central Otago, Arrowtown consistently punches above its weight in the New Zealand rankings.

Jack's Point

Location
Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown
Opened
2008
Designer
John Darby
Events
New Zealand Open co-host
Rankings
#9 in New Zealand, top100golfcourse.com

Jack's Point is one of the most spectacularly sited golf courses in the world — a John Darby design draped along the eastern shore of Lake Wakatipu, directly beneath the jagged peaks of the Remarkables. The course tumbles through tussock, wetlands, and lakeside cliff-tops, with the par-4 7th (a driveable heroic tee shot across the lake edge) and the par-3 8th (played from a lakeside tee to a green cut into the cliff) among the most photographed holes in New Zealand. Genuine championship credentials and once-in-a-lifetime scenery make it a required stop on any Queenstown golf itinerary.

Opened
2007
Designer
Sir John Turner (Darby Partners)
Events
New Zealand Open (co-host, from 2014)
Rankings
#11 in New Zealand, top100golfcourse.com

The Hills is Sir Michael Hill's private members' club just outside Arrowtown, and the annual host of the New Zealand Open — a joint DP World / PGA Tour of Australasia event contested here since 2014. Sir John Turner's design uses the dramatic natural landform of a former deer farm, with 90 metres of elevation change, exposed schist outcrops, and the Speargrass Creek weaving through the course. The Hills' most distinctive feature is its extraordinary collection of large-scale sculpture, dotted through the course as part of Sir Michael's private collection.
