TJ's Masters Preview

Well, in this strange year of 2020, we didn’t get to start our Canadian golf season with the Masters on our tv sets, but it will conclude our season, as we prepare for our golf off-season.  But the good news is that we get two Majors in a row at Augusta!  And I am excited to watch the Masters next week, it’ll be a different feel without fans, but all of the top players will be there, and Tiger is still defending his title from 2019.

I can’t pick Tiger to win this week, as much as I’d like to, as he’s still obviously dealing with some physical issues, and isn’t driving the ball well enough to contend.  I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see him in the mix on Sunday.

One of the big stories this week will be Bryson DeChambeau, who is apparently bringing out his 48” long driver and trying to overpower the golf course with 400 yard drives.  This course can be overpowered to a certain degree as there is little to no rough to speak of, so keep it inside the tree lines, and power is a big advantage.  I for one hope he can’t hit a wedge for his second shot into 13, but if he does, all the power to him.

Rory has also talked about bulking up and adding yardage, so it may be a bit of a long drive contest at Augusta this year.  I do like the longer hitters to contend, and think that Rory will be in the mix, trying to complete his career Grand Slam.

But my pick to win this year is Jon Rahm.  He has the power necessary to compete and is in good form.  He also has top 10s in his last two appearances at Augusta.

Regardless of who wins, it’s bound to be an exciting Masters that will look a little different from past years and should have many big names in the mix.  Enjoy!
